Country Wine & Spirits will celebrate the store and gas station’s remodeling Tuesday, Jan. 12 with a grand reopening and fundraiser for Rady Children’s Hospital-San Diego.
From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. that day all proceeds from the sale of gas and merchandise at the 1350 Main St. location will be donated to the hospital, said Steve Hermiz, general manager of Country Wine & Spirits and Ramona Lisa Pizza & Subs.
“The kids always need support,” Hermiz said. “We like to be a part of helping children. Whatever money customers spend will be donated.”
Country Wine & Spirits has two other locations, at 23658 San Vicente Road in San Diego Country Estates and 17718 state Route 67.
Hermiz is celebrating a renovation that cost more than $300,000 and took more than a year-and-a-half to complete. A full remodeling of the Main Street location included new flooring, lighting, walls, shelves and a walk-in cooler. Outside, the six gas pumps were replaced and pipes were upgraded with tanks that have a double layer of concrete to prevent impacts from cracks and leaks.
The improvements were done to modernize the store for the benefit of the community, he said.
Rady Children’s Hospital spokesman Carlos Delgado said any amount of donation helps the hospital.
“Anything that makes a difference in a child’s life is great,” Delgado said. “We appreciate the community coming together to help children in their time of need.”
Rady Children’s Hospital is one of the largest children’s hospitals in the country and serves children from birth to age 18 in San Diego, Imperial and southern Riverside counties. Individual donations can be made to the hospital online at radyfoundation.org.
Country Wine & Spirits’ spirit of giving continues throughout the year. Since 2005, the Country Wine & Spirits store in San Diego Country Estates has hosted free barbecues for the community during the Memorial Day, Fourth of July and Labor Day holidays. The business also has an annual tradition of giving away hundreds of turkeys for the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays.
