Operated by and for the benefit of the Ramona Pioneer Historical Society, the Guy B. Woodward Museum is located right in the heart of Ramona’s Historical Main Street District.

The museum comprises of a small complex of historical buildings, which includes the Verlaque House (the only Western adobe home of French provincial design still in existence), wagons, antique exhibits, and artifacts. There is a cowboy bunkhouse, women’s clothing and accessories from 1700 to 1800, a ranch blacksmith shop and tack room. The Casey Tibbs Memorial Exhibit is dedicated to Tibbs, a local resident who was a world-champion rodeo rider. Rare documents, historical exhibits, books, photographs, and a research library are also part of the complex.

The Guy B. Woodward Museum’s archives are available to the public for research. You must reserve a research date and time. You may call the museum directly at (760) 789-7644 or click here to email. The museum charges for research time and the duplication of materials from the archives according to the following schedule:

• Four (4) hour period of research time:  $25 – $100*
• Photographs: $25 each
• Duplication of original sources:  $1 per page
• Duplication of Dr. Art Woodward’s bibliography cards: $4 each card

* If research is being done for purposes of profit, the cost will be $50 – $100 for the four hour period. This cost covers the time required for the museum’s archivist to research and secure the necessary materials and to monitor the research.

The following resources are available for research:

• Approx. 2,500 historic photos of pioneer families and the Ramona and Ballena Valleys, Witch Creek. Santa Ysabel, and Mesa Grande
• Photo collection of early Mesa Grande Native American Indians
• Ramona Sentinel newspapers to 1894
• Autobiographies and biographies of pioneer residents
• Financial records, statistics, and other documents of early businesses, farms, ranches, and families
• Antique tools, equipment, farm machinery, black smith shop, cowboy artifacts, and mining equipment
• Vintage women’s dresses (250) and accessories to 1860
• Vintage quilts to 1850
• Archives of Dr. James Morriarity II – Historian and marine archeologist
• Architecture of the only adobe French Provincial home – The Verlaque House
• Antique and historic furniture
• Artifacts: toys, cameras, communications, military, mining, office machines, etc.
• Census, cemetary, and school records
