Memorial Day ceremonies pay tribute to veterans who have died

Ramona Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3783 and its auxiliary will lead three Memorial Day ceremonies Monday, May 27, to pay tribute to the men and women in the U.S. Armed Forces who died in military service .
Post and auxiliary members will also conduct their annual Buddy Poppy Drive in front of Albertsons, Stater Bros., Kmart and the Country Wine & Spirits Village Store Friday through Sunday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day. Ramona High School Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps cadets and Boy Scout will assist them on Saturday and Sunday.
Buddy Poppy donations go to charitable programs for needy and disabled veterans and surviving family members of deceased veterans.
The Memorial Day ceremonies Monday will begin at 10 a.m. at Nuevo Memory Gardens cemetery, 532 Ash St. Post Commander Alexis Henshaw will preside. The NJROTC Color Guard will present the colors, a wreath will be placed on the grave of the unknown soldier, and flowers will be presented to Gold Star mothers whose son or daughter was killed in war or missing in action.
The second ceremony will follow at the World War II memorial at Ninth and G streets and will honor Ramona servicemen who died in that war.
The third ceremony will be at the Vietnam Memorial at Schwaesdall Winery at 17677 Rancho de Oro Drive off state Route 67.
The afternoon will be spent at a barbecue picnic at the VFW post at 2247 Kelly Ave. All are welcome. Those attending may bring a side dish and/or to share. The post traditionally supplies hot dogs and hamburgers. Buddy Poppy donations will be accepted during the barbecue for those who were unable to contribute earlier.
