Event Details

The popular Knights of Columbus 23rd Annual Lenten Fish Fry is set to begin Feb. 16, and will continue every Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. through March 23.

The once-a-week feast will feature beer-battered fried fish or baked fish, french fries or mashed potatoes, rolls, coleslaw, tartar sauce, lemon wedges, coffee and punch.

“It’s the best fish fry that I’ve been exposed to in the West,” said Gary Paun, communications director for Knights of Columbus No. 9133.

“I’m originally from Wisconsin, and this is equal to Wisconsin fish fries. They’ve got a recipe that’s out of this world, and they have buns that are that are made by Sam Sharamitaro, who used to own an Italian restaurant.”

Dinners will be held in the social center at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 537 E St.

Paun says the event gives members of the community an opportunity to visit with friends and neighbors. Dinners are open to the public, and the social center is often packed with repeat guests who make it an annual tradition.

“It’s really a hoot,” Paun said. “You get a lot of camaraderie with people you know in the community.”

Cost is $12 for adults, $6 for children under 12, and $30 for families of two adults and two or more children. Clam chowder is $3, and ice cream, soda and bottled water are $1.

The fish fries help raise money for charities supported by the Knights of Columbus, including Ramona Pregnancy Care Clinic, Ramona Food and Clothes Closet and Michael’s House.

“We give it back to the community, so it circulates the money to good causes,” Paun said.
