A free WaterSmart Landscape Design for Homeowners class will be held in Ramona from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 14, at the Ramona Library, 1275 Main Street. Hosted by the Ramona Municipal Water District and the San Diego County Water Authority, the three-hour workshop is an introductory class that could be the first in a series of WaterSmart classes that would be held in Ramona.
Diane Stoltz, cross-connection program specialist for the RMWD, said at least 35 people are needed to sign up for the four-class WaterSmart Landscape Makeover Series sponsored by the SDCWA. People who register for the four series classes must commit to having their own yards re-landscaped with drought-tolerant landscaping with coaching from a landscape professional.
The introductory WaterSmart Landscape Design for Homeowners workshop will include brochures and PowerPoint presentations and cover the following topics:
- How to convert your turf area to a water efficient landscape;
- How to select plants that will thrive in our Mediterranean climate;
- How to analyze your yard, identify soil, remove turf and irrigate efficiently; and
- How to create a professional landscape, planting and irrigation designs.
“The Landscape Design class will teach homeowners the basics of how to do a landscape makeover,” Stoltz said. “We’re super excited about it. We hope we get a good attendance and drum up interest for the other classes.”
