As part of the San Diego County system’s Children’s Day/Book Day events this month, the Ramona Library will host a Family Fiesta in celebration of Dia de los Ninos and children, families, and literacy on Tuesday, April 30, from 3 to 6 p.m.
Activities will include crafts, raffles, face painting, and entertainment. Health screenings and resources will be offered, and free books will be available.
They celebrate Dia de los Ninos and Dia de Los Libros, which are traditionally observed in Mexico and many Latin American countries on April 30. Libraries across the United States now tie Children’s Day to the importance of books and literacy for children and teens.
The idea came from award-winning poet and author Pat Mora in 1996. She saw it as a way to pay tribute to children, childhood and the importance of early literacy. Dia, as it’s known, fouses on different cultures and the value of multilingual literacy and diverse library collections.
